GRIT: The Arcade Game Jingai Kanzaki movelist By Skribulous Intro: Jingai's my character, so it's pretty logical that I should be writing the guide about him. Most of the stuff in the arcade is pretty accurate, but there's just some gaps I just wanted to fill. Conventions: I'll be using the controller motions used by the other faqs. I don't know who started it, but I'm using them anyways. Story: "Jingai Kanzaki could have been the next spiritual leader of a worldwide religious institution, but rejected the honor in favor of his lifelong quest - to make his Martial Art Ultimate. Therefore, it came as no surprise that he became involved in the battles in Nerima in his travels." (This was quoted directly from the game itself. Okay, so it skips out most of his life and clouded the real details of the rest, but in general sounds fine to me.) Stage: An abandoned ruin of a temple, with a wrecked statue of the Buddha in the middle. (Fans of Ranma 1/2 and GRIT would recognize this stage as the place where Ranma and Ryuu fought.) If the battle occurs in the daytime, light would stream down from the holes in the ceiling above and the walls from the right side. If the battle occurs in the nighttime, several torches line the broken walls, and the moon can be seen from a hole on the wall at the left side. There is are stone walls at both corners, which can be broken down for more space, leading to a garden of sunflowers to the left, and a stone path to the right. Several GRITters can be seen in the background watching the fight. As long as they are not part of the fight, Ryuu will be perched on the wreck of the statue, and Nezumi will be cheering Jingai on in the background next to his duffel bag. Outfit: Player 1 Default - Jeans, Leather Jacket, Fingerless Gloves, Sneakers and Baseball Cap, all blue, and white shirt under jacket, prayer bead necklace Player 2 Default - as Player 1 Default, but purple instead of blue Player 1 Alternate - complete Buddhist travelling monk robes with hood, all blue Player 2 Alternate - as Player 1 Alternate, but purple instead of grey Entrance: CPU only - Jingai slowly floats down from the sky up above. He then formally bows to the opponent, saying, "I do hope I'm not too superior compared to you." before going into his fighting stance. First Player - Jingai takes out a small sphere, muttering, "Dimensional Battle Theater." The whole background then greyscales and freezes in place, remaining that way until the end of the match, where everything is restored. (Probably to save memory by reducing programming routines.) He then pockets the sphere as he goes into his fighting stance, saying, "Ikuzo!" (Let's go!) Normal - As Jingai enters the screen, he calls out, "Yamero!" (Wait!/Stop!) He then formally bows before going into his fighting stance, saying, "Let's see you do that again..." Vs. Kiwi or any pair that has a Nezumi helper - Nezumi enters the screen, and they talk: Jingai: Etto, Ne-san..? (Uh, sis..?) Nezumi: Saa... Ikimassu, Oniichan. Onegai? (C'mon, let's do this, Brother. Please?) Jingai: ...Hai. Gomen ne... (...OK. Sorry...) Nezumi: Ganbatte! (Good Luck!) Vs. Ryuu - They banter on for a bit: Jingai: I'm here to fight just as I promised. Ryuu: And here you lose as proof of my power. Jingai: I don't think so, friend. Ryuu: You'll never win, weakling. Jingai: I never promised to lose. Vs. Tarou - Jingai raises his fist in anger towards a chuckling Tarou: Jingai: I'm here despite all odds. Tarou: Give it up, you can't possibly beat me. Jingai: I can't live with myself if I won't try. Tarou: You already lost. Jingai: We'll see about that. (Note: Barely means when Jingai is at >5% of life. Normal is anywhere from 5%-99% of life. Near win is when Jingai wins in less than 20 ticks of time. Perfect is never getting hit even once. Of course, you can also select your win pose with the buttons.) Victory Poses: Barely Won - Drops to his knees in exhaustion. Normal Win - Fixes his clothes (default adjusts his hat while alternate smoothes his robes) and glances ruefully at the fallen opponent. Near Win - Bows formally and turns way, looking back ruefully at the the fallen opponent. Perfect - Levitates into the air, smiling serenely. Defeated - Jingai chokes out, "Masaka..." ("How...") Draw Game - Shrugs, glancing at the opponent ruefully. Time Loss - Bows formally and turns way, sighing sadly. Taunt - Throws a short-ranged Ki-ha/Hikariya/Hitenya (depending on his current condition) that stuns the opponent if it hits (no damage, but opens them up...), Jingai then says, "Gomen." Victory Quotes: Barely Win - "Your techniques are interesting. Challenge me again when you mastered them." Normal Win - "I guess I over-estimated you." Near win - "Sorry, but I can't let you disgrace your school any further." Perfect - "You aren't even worth my attention." Vs. Tarou, Ryuu - "I... Won..." OVERVIEW: Jingai is unique in the sense that in playing him you are actually using three different characters, akin to using Ryu/Ken/Akuma in SFvC. He is not fast or strong, but his attacks are chainable and he has maximum priority, rivaling even faster MADMs. He also has excellent recovery. His specials do not lag, but he is slowed due to the fact that almost all of them are charge moves. Of course, the more you hold, the stronger the resulting attack. In his different forms he has his own set of moves that have their own style. Jingai does not have a unique playing method, any style can be used in playing him, from keepaways to in your face assaults. Advantage: He has his own form of "desperation". When his life meter is less than 10%, Jingai's eyes begin to glow, and he can perform Supers WITHOUT REQUIRING ANY METER. If ever his super meter is charged, his Supers are considered one level higher, and if his super meter is full, the resulting Super is UNBLOCKABLE. His taunt can be considered as an attack. ^_^ Disadvantage: As stated in the overview, most of his specials require building up (press and hold the attack button) to be effective. He also does not have the unarmed range of melee fighters, but has distance attacks to make up for it. He also does not have any normal throws. His biggest disadvantage, however, is his stamina: He does not take hits pretty well. In fact, certain enemy supers could kill him instantly. ;_; Game engine specifics: Wall bounce - yes Air jump - yes (Jingai dashes in the direction pushed) Parry - yes Chainable normals - yes Comboable specials - yes Interruptible supers - yes Punch Grapples - Jingai does not throw his opponent, but pushes them away, momentarily opening them up for any followup combos. Kick Grapples - Jingai does not throw his opponent, but instead they switch places. Air Grapple - Jingai catches his opponent in mid-air, then slams them to the ground. TEAMWORK Attack - Jingai performs the same Super the active MADM is using, but from the opposite side of the screen. (Note: All supers are in caps. You can still move even while holding down the punch/kick buttons.) Jingai: Bound by Man (Normal) ------ Jingai starts out with in this form. His supers include a mimicry attack. In this form he fights mainly with several borrowed styles. Specials *Cantrip press start - (see taunt) *Ki-ha qcfxn + p (hold, then release) Your generic ki-blast. The button depends on the range and speed. The n in the move is the number of times you have to perform the qcf motion for every additional projectile you want to release. Can be done in the air. *Ki-ken qcf + k (hold, then release) Guard breaker sword slash, Jingai generates an energy sword, the longer the button is pressed, the more damaging. Can be done in the air. *Ki-jin b,f + k (hold, then release) Offensive block, Jingai forms a shield in front of him then slowly moves forward, pushing the opponent back. Does little damage but breaks traps since this move is basically a block. *Nezumi Ryusei Bakudan d (hold p), u (release p) (Nezumi's Exploding Comet) Jingai hurls a MASSIVE ball of energy directly upwards. The speed of the attack depends on the button pressed, and the size increases the longer you wait. ^_^ If the opponent is caught, he will stick around for several seconds as the blasts zap him to non-existence... *Nezumi Ryusei Bakudan d (hold k), u (release k) (Nezumi's Exploding Comet) You think the first version was bad enough? get this: Jingai hops upwards, releasing a MASSIVE ball of energy in the apex of the jump. The speed of the attack depends on the button pressed, and the size is pretty big... The time the "stationary sun" sticks around increases the longer you wait. ^_^ If the opponent is caught, he will stick around for several seconds as the blasts zap him to non-existence... *LIFE RESTORATION qcf + k all Jingai restores about 20% total life for every level of Super used. Of course, he can only use this as long as he is conscious, and using it in his "desperation" mode causes him to lose his current state of power, so you should be careful in using this special. *LEARNING THE NEW MOVE qcf + p all Jingai's mimicry attack. Really cool, the way he duplicates the current opponent's Super out of nowhere. He uses only one predetermined Super attack for each opponent, and he can only use the Level 1 version. Jingai: Bound by Heaven (hcb+p all) ------ Jingai calls on his affinity for lightning when you perform hcb+all punch buttons. There is a start-up delay, but while changing he is invunerable to enemy attacks. In this form he loses some moves including the mimicry attack but gains two new supers. Doing hcb+p all again returns him to normal. Specials *Cantrip (see above) *Ki-ken (see above) *Ki-jin (see above) *Hikariya qcfxn + p (hold, then release) (Thundrous Arrow) Shoots a bolt of lightning. Has a long range, and the speed depends on the button pressed. The n in the move is the number of times you have to perform the qcf motion for every additional projectile you want to release. Can be done in the air. *Hikaridan b,f + p (hold, then release) (Thundrous Bullet) Shoots a ball of lightning. Has a long range, and the speed depends on the button pressed. Can cancel out projectiles (except Supers) without being affected. Can be done in the air. *Nezumi Ryusei Bakudan (both - see above) *LIFE RESTORATION (see above) *JINGAI KOREDA qcb + k all Jingai makes a grab attempt. If he succeds, the opponent is jolted as a bolt of lightning falls from the heavens, electrical energy rushing directly on contact. The duration increases for every Level of the Super used. ^_^ *KASSHIN TENRYU NO MAI qcf + p all (LIVELY DRAGON OF HEAVEN DANCE) Your token autocombo, Jingai rushes forward, punching and kicking for about 9 (+ 3 for every level of Super) hits. The damage is delayed until the end, when the opponent is then wracked by minature explosions surrounding their body. Jingai will still do the whole combo even if the opponent blocks the whole set, making for great chipping damage. ;p Can be done in the air. (Note: I like this interpretation of Jingai's lightning powers. It's pretty much I would visualize him to do in an arcade game...) Jingai: Bound by Earth (hcb+k all) ------ Jingai summons the power of fire when you perform hcb+all kick buttons. There is a start-up delay, but while changing he is invunerable to enemy attacks. In this form he loses some moves including the mimicry attack but gains two new supers. Doing hcb+k all again returns him to normal. Specials *Cantrip (see above) *Ki-ken (see above) *Ki-jin (see above) *Hitenya qcfxn + p (hold, then release) (Fire Heaven Arrow) Shoots a bolt of fire. Very fast, and the range depends on the button pressed. The n in the move is the number of times you have to perform the qcf motion for every additional projectile you want to release. Can be done in the air. *Hitendan b,f + p (hold, then release) (Fire Heaven Bullet) Shoots a ball of fire. Very fast, and can cancel out projectiles (except Supers) without being affected. The range depends on the button pressed. Can be done in the air. *Nezumi Ryusei Bakudan (both - see above) *LIFE RESTORATION (see above) *MOETAROU, MOETAROU, MOETAROU... qcb + k all ("BURN, BURN, BURN...") Jingai enters into a trance, and an aura of flames envelop him. In this state ALL his moves deal double damage, and the target is stunned while covered in flames whenever they are hit. However, Jingai's life slowly decreases, 3% for every tick... The Super either ends when you perform the qcb + all kick buttons again, or when he reaches 1% (!) of his life (which triggers his "desperation" mode), so be very careful... *GOKU KA CHIRYU NO RANBU qcf + p all (HELLFIRE DRAGON OF EARTH MAYHEM) Jingai screams, then blazes towards the opponent, flames trailing behind him. If the opponent is caught, they are dragged around the stage for a while, then finally Jingai either hurls them to the wall (Level 1), shoots a point blank Hitendan at them (Level 2), or slams them to the ground, where a column of flame erupts from beneath them (Max). Even after Jingai finishes the move, the flames on the ground still remain for a few more seconds, and the enemy takes more damage when they make contact with them. (Note: What the hfil does Jingai have these new moves? I don't even believe he would... then again, they are pretty... interesting. ) ENDINGS: I don't know what Jingai's ending dialouge is, it's probably different from every pairing. SPOILER! THE SECRET ENDING! Nezumi finished the game using Jingai/Kiwi, while using only Jingai the whole time, never switching characters OR calling for helpers. Incredible, but true. Anyway, as she finished, the screen goes black, and we see the cinematics: We see Jingai outside Mystic Manor (pretty impressive animation, BTW), waving goodbye to Nezumi and company. It seems he is going on a long training trip, and may not return for a while. As he walks away, we are treated to a visual enumeration of all the stages of the game in the background while the credits roll in the foreground. The credits (and backgrounds) finish, then we see Jingai outside Tokyo, looking back wistfully. Suddenly, someone calls out to him. Jingai turns around and sees Ryuu Kumon. Ryuu: Will you be coming back? Jingai: Of course I will. Ryuu: You're lying. Jingai: Why should I? Ryuu: There's nothing here for you anymore. Jingai: You are wrong. Ryuu: Then I'll be waiting. We'll be waiting. Jingai: Be seeing you. Ryuu: Same to you... friend. Then they part ways, Jingai walking on... We then see an incredible sight: An aerial view of a Shaolin temple, smoking and in ruins. We slowly pan in, and the angle settles on a figure running in the temple courtyard. It's Jingai. He goes to an old monk lying on the floor. Jingai: What happened? Old Monk: You... shouldn't have returned... Jingai: Who did this? The old monk dies. Jingai looks up... and sees that he has been watched. There are three figures atop the temple wall, shilouetted in shadows. Jingai: Who are you? The figures chuckle, then jump towards him. Jingai leaps up, preparing to attack... The screen goes white... THE END? As you can see, there is bound to be a sequel. That is, if Jingai lived... I'm not sure how to actually get this ending, but I noted what Nezumi did, which was a pretty amazing thing. (Note: Nezumi was crying the whole time. I feel sorry for her... but it can't be helped, ne?) -Skribulous (And if you think all this is real, you need to get your head examined... or at least get out more ;p)
