STEVE Name: Steven Scougall RL: Steven Scougall E-mail: s_scougall@hotmail.com AIM screen-name: S Scougall ICQ number: 2738087 ----- RANK & TRAITS Rank: 8 --- Attributes Creative, Instinctive, Impulsive, Dragonfire Ki --- Skills Martial Arts, Hammerspacing, Ki abilities, Fire of the Dragon magic ----- ATTITUDE Style: Ryuuenkakutouryuu (Dragonflame martial arts style) - A style that combines a wide, diverse, and balanced base of basic grappling and striking techniques with Fire of the Dragon ki usage techniques. Basically it covers everything, not concentrating on any particular area of fighting. Such specialisations are left to the user. --- Methods: Steve fights agressively, relying less on strategy and tactics and more on instinct and improvised counterattacks. He never fights to kill, unless pushed extremely over the edge. When his usual aggressive and instinctive style doesn't work, he'll draw back and reassess how best to fight his opponent. He dislikes being underhanded, and will avoid running, cheating, and even avoid using certain techniques if possible. ----- SPECIALS Advantages: Standard Martial Arts Abilities - superleaping, advanced healing factor, and so on. Fire Generation - Through his position as a One to Carry On the Fire, he generates Fire. Constantly, with no real conscious thought. If he doesn't concentrate on it, or is unconscious, then this generation of Fire is typically very slow. This then leads into... Stupidly Huge Amounts of Power - He has a very large amount of internal power to draw on. That said, Blade and Incense still outstrip him in terms of sheer power. Improvisation - He has demonstrated an ability to improvise and come up with new variants of his techniques, and very occasionally new techniques. The problem is that these new techniques and variants aren't always all that good. Sometimes they're downright silly and/or dangerous to him. Ki Sensing - He's developing and refining his ability to sense ki. At the moment, he can detect a couple of 'types' of ki: standard human ki, the Fire, and probably the Waters; any other types he detects as 'other'. This is on all the time, basically, and lets him always know where his opponent is, but to get fine detail he has to concentrate. That is, without concentrating he can tell you roughly in what direction and how far away his opponent is; when concentrating he can not only tell you exactly where his opponent is but what he/she is had for breakfast two weeks ago. Quick Learner - Steve can see something done and be using it almost immediately, especially so with Fire techniques. Unlike Ranma, he has to practice for a bit before he can do it flawlessly and apply it properly to combat, but this 'learning time' is getting lower all the time. Half-dragon traits: Being half-dragon, Steve has some innate traits that he is still getting the hang of. These include shapeshifting, increased abilities, and a natural understanding of the Fire, and an instinct for using it. There is also of course, his ability to grow wings and use them for flight. --- Disadvantages: Fire Reliance - Steve he relies on the Fire being in the area around him to be able to perform remote ki blasts. He's far from a slouch without them, and all his basic abilities are the same. However, remote moves are a large part of what makes him dangerous, and without them he effectively drops a Rank (to Rank 7). While he can use his Fire Generation to flood an area with Fire in just a few minutes, he is generally very loath to do so. Overkill - He has a tendency to do really big and supposedly powerful attacks to try and overwhelm the opponent. These may do some damage, but he often wears himself out more than he hurts his opponent. Stubborn, hotheaded and impulsive - He rarely runs away and wants to see the fight through. Couple that with the way he sometimes does extremely rash things without thinking them through (generally when his friends are in extreme danger), and you've got a very bad collection of traits that have gotten him almost killed once and actually killed another time. (Obviously, he got better.) Ridiculously Honest - Steve regards his remote Fire manipulation techniques as giving him unfair advantages and prefers not to use them in a fair fight. He'll use them if in a serious fight (ie been ambushed, fighting the villain of the week, and so on), but outside of such fights he won't use the techniques at all. This limits his options and makes him less unpredictable, and typically drops him down to a Rank 7. His techniques list has been split into 'will use at any time' techniques and 'not OK' techniques for clarification. Lagging Martial Arts abilities - while Steve has, as of late, been developing more and more power, his martial arts abilities haven't been improving. He's no slouch, but if he had to fight on pure martial arts abilities alone and not rely on special techniques, he's Rank 7 at best. --- "Will use at any time" Techniques (OK, I shall try to keep the Techniques section as brief and concise as possible. It's just that over the past seven years of GRIT, he's built up a lot of techniques and skills.) (As mentioned in the Disadvantages section, these are the techniques he has no qualms about using at any time.) Hammerspacing He's very good with hammerspacing, and can pull out pretty much anything at any time. This isn't used that often because most of the time he doesn't need a weapon anyway, but he can use this to produce a weapon if the situation deems it necessary. His preferred weapons are the wooden mallet and bokken. Different ki usages With the exception of remote ki control techniques he can perform any of his ki blast techniques with just normal ki (appears as pure white), just Fire (appears as dirty yellow), or a mix of the two (his usual yellow-white). This last is the most powerful and the one he's most used to, so he uses it the most. He may use one of the other two if the situation demands. He can also use his ki to manifest actual fire instead of 'solid' energy. This can be applied to every single one of his ki-blast techniques, including remote ones. This is something he doesn't use much, but the possibility is there. Ryuuenda (Dragonfire Strike) The user attacks with a normal strike (or block, or deflection), with an energy aura surrounding the attacking limb or weapon. The user does connect with the strike, but mainly with the energy, and this does about as much damage and requires as much effort as a Ryuenba. Steve sometimes combines this with the Chikara Agari to deliver fast, powerful blows. He never calls out the technique name when he does it. Ryuuenba (Dragonfire Wave) Basic energy fireball fired from the hand. Size, speed, power and so on are easily modified - though the more powerful the blast the more energy it takes. Generally he fires a fast moving basketball sized fireball with almost no effort, and could probably keep it up all day before getting tired. Chouryuuenba (Super Ki Wave) A large focussed beam of energy that the user fires from the hands. It's probably Steve's most powerful single ki-blast technique - it does huge amounts of damage, it travels very fast, and obliterates 'smaller' energy blasts. It can, at full power, destroy mountains. It requires a fair bit of energy for him to pull off, though, and can't be used that often in a fight. Koishikakken (Pebble Snatching Punch) Steve's version of Ranma's Kachu Tenshin Amaguriken. At his current Rank, he's getting close to a thousand punches in less than a second. This is not used that much as an actual combat technique. The real use of this is that in training for it he had to speed up a whole lot. --- "Not OK" Techniques (And now for the 'Not Okay' Techniques. That is, these are techniques he thinks give him too much of an unfair advantage. He will only use these in serious fights against 'bad guys' and never in sparring with friends.) Flight Well, he can grow wings. Of course he can fly. He can go at Great Speed, if he has to, and can probably circumnavigate the globe in ten minutes. He wouldn't be much use for anything after doing so, as that sort of speed is rather draining, but he *could*. If he wanted to. However, he will only use flight in combat if his opponent can also fly. Fire Throw Molds the Fire around a random object to give that object a good hard shove, usually at his opponent. Very easy to pull off, and is very frequently used in fights against 'bad guys'. It's a great distraction, after all. Firewalking Basically, Steve moves his form into the Fire, becoming a being of pure Fire. In this state he can move extremely quickly though the Fire to another spot and then reform his solid body. He can do this so quickly that over short to medium distances it is effectively a teleport. However, Firewalking has a *major* weakness in that the barrier between the Firewalker and the Fire is very fragile. If the place the Firewalker is in is attacked with a Fire blast it is enough to destroy the barrier and effectively kill him/her. Steve knows of this weakness, so he limits his Firewalking as much as possible around enemies who can perform Fire blasts. Fire of the Dragon Magic He can use Fire of the Dragon 'Magic' for effects such as teleportation, generating a large amount of the Fire, drawing it into a holding crystal, healing himself, plot device pressure points, and so on. This is a skill he's still developing. Ryuuen Gebakuhatsu (Dragonflame Remote Explosion) Basically, Steve points at an object, and with a moment's concentration uses Fire-based remote ki control to cause a ki eplosion inside that object, making the target object explode. This is quite easy, but only works on inanimate objects outside a living being's aura. As an example of what he can do, he can explode the end of gun barrels and the end of knife blades while the opponent is still holding the weapon. Chouryuuenbashira (Super Dragon Flame Pillar) A trademark Dragonflame technique, where the user uses their Fire and ki in combination to affect both remote Fire and remote ki, and causes a large energy beam to fire from a remote source. This is usually from the ground to blast upwards. Incredibly useful and impossibly hard to avoid as there's no travel time to the target. This technique requires a moment or two of concentration to do, and the further away the target is, the harder it becomes. The Chouryuuenbashira is markedly less powerful than the Chouryuuenba, for approximately the same amount of effort. As it's not very strong, Steve usually uses this to do only off-balancing or distracting blows.
