[GRIT] Video Gaming [non-continuity] Author: goburiki Date: 1999/05/21 Forum: rec.arts.anime.misc Its another typical weekend, not in Nerima but a little further off downtown, just outside. You know, where the taxes are a lot higher and the police actually does something more than warn citizens of super powered battles. A large arcade is bustling with activity as many a gamer is inside enjoying themselves. The newest games are blaring away and the arcade is jumping. Two such gamers are currently searching the halls for their next game. Ro and Ryuji are checking out the latest games, away from Nerima where an arcade like this can afford a cheaper insurance policy. Ro: So Ryuji, which game do you want to try out next? Ryuji: Hmm... I dunno... there's so much more than the Manor's arcade. Ro: And newer ones too. I'll have to see if we can update the rec room's games. Of course that will come out of my pocket most likely... ^_^;; Ryuji: HEY! Look at this one Ro-sempai! Ro: Hm? Que es? Ryuji: Look! Doesn't this... look familiar? Ro: Wait a second... no way... Ro gets a closer look at the arcade demo display and suddenly realizes that there's more than just a casual familiarity to the characters. The music plays hard and fast as scenes of each character doing special attacks and combos begins to fill the screen. demo: Yes, now battle it out as one of those crazy Nerimans! Team up and use their awesome powers to crush your opponents. Its the most incredible fight ever as you try to see whose the strongest over all! Ryuji: Wow! Is that us? Ro: I would never have believed it if I didn't see it with my own eyes. Whats this game called? demo: Play GRIT the Arcade Game!!!! Ro: GRIT the arcade game? Ryuji: Thats a really lousy name. Ro: So what. Lets give it a shot. Maybe we're in it? The game's production screens go by and a little blurb about being funded by the maniacal worshippers of the holy Heavensrun and co. is mentioned along with assistance by Stahlcom. Ro and Ryuji put some yen coins in and hit the 1player, 2player buttons. Ro: Alright! Who can we play as? I'm not in it!!! Ro: Ay yai yai! Calm down. Lets check it out. Maybe you're in the background? Ryuji: Ro and Ryuji each choose a character. Ro picks Mist and Tarou. Ryuji chooses Al and Steve. Ro: See! There you are. Ryuji: That sucks. A helper... I should have my OWN video game all about me. The screen changes and the background changes into a recreation of the Ken Ni Kaze, complete with drunken dwarfs, Ling behind the counter, Trina whipping some pool RL less NPC's, and an occasional customer changing their mind and leaving. Mist 'appears' while Al jumps in werewolf form while waving a sign around. game: Ready! FIGHT!! The two gamers square off and begin trying old tried and tested game moves to pull off special attacks. After some joystick tricks Mist shouts "Cho Hikari Ha!" and flings a blade of ki at Al. Ryuji makes Al jump incredibly high to dodge, just barely and attacks Mist from the air with some regular kicks and punches. Ro counters with some normal attacks and makes Ryuji go on the defensive. Each one calls in their helper at one point or another. Lisa runs in with her spell jewels floating over head. The jewels then glow and several small magic bolts leap out in random directions before Lisa runs off screen. Yohann hops in with lazer sword blazing when it fizzles out. He hits it a few times and a large explosion results, leaving him frazzled before he runs off screen. After several rounds of melee Mist's power gauge is at full. Ro tries some more joystick work and the background goes white as Mist shouts, "ShiHikariHa!" Al gets hit full blast and goes down. Steve replaces the downed Al. Ryuji: Aw no fair! Ro: Heh heh! Hey, how do you switch characters in mid-fight? Ryuji: Hmm... hit both middle buttons. Ro: Lets see.... The two go at it again, Steve with hammers and Fire techniques while Tarou just fights hard with skill. Ro is kinda clunky without any distance attacks and Tarou starts getting pummeled. RL-Blade: That would NEVER happen-! RL-UL: Okay, so Ro isn't a very good player. Steve shouts "Chouryuenba!" Tarou finally gets beat and Mist replaces him. Using what he already learned, Ro manages to beat Ryuji to the punch. game: Winner!! Ryuji: Aw no fair! You cheated! Ro: Don't be like that. Play someone else. Now you know at least one of the moves, right? Ryuji puts some more yen in the machine and picks Jo and U-chan. They each get new helpers, Ro getting Ryuji while Ryuji getting Sumire. The scene opens up and they are now in front of Ranma and Akane's home. In the background Akane is watching while Genma and Soun play Shogi. game: Ready! FIGHT! Mist leaps at Jo, kicking him while Jo blocks. Mist tries a Hikariha that Jo counters with his own Firewater techniques. Ryuji: Hah! Lemme see.... Ryuji attempts some more configurations but Jo's moves are too hard for him to pull out. Ryuji calls in his helper, Sumire. Sumire lands in full magical girl garb and waves her stick. Several horoscope signs leap out and fall around her before she leaps away, hitting Mist and knocking him back. Ryuji takes the chance and presses the attack. Mist falls back and summons his helper. Ryuji leaps out and shouts "Makaze Shougekihaken!" and a huge bolt of ki flies into the air, knocking Jo back. In the background Akane hears something and shouts at the combatants "Urusai!" before running to tend to the now crying twins. The battle continues and Ro switches to Tarou to continue fighting and let Mist rest. Suddenly it rains and Tarou turns into Mecha Tarou while Jo turns into Akane. Mecha Tarou has an advantage and his attacks are much more lethal as Ryuji scrambles to get Jo to safety. Jo gets in a few hits and summons Sumire again. This time the magical girl gets smacked away before she can attack. The rain has stopped and Lo Shin runs in the back ground offering hot water to Tarou. Ro decides against turning him back to normal and Lo Shin runs off. Ukkyou offers Jo hot water and Ryuji jumps toward her, getting splashed back to normal before Ukkyou runs off. The fight continues with Jo getting beaten. U- chan leaps in, swinging her spatula. U-chan manages to strike Tarou with her weapon and Ro switches accidentally to Mist. Mist gets smacked but he comes back with another attack. The battle goes on until Mist gets KO'd, then finally U-chan is knocked out by Tarou. Ryuji: Grr.... Ro: Sorry kid. Better practice. ^_^ Ryuji: I'll bite your fingers you.... Ro: Uh, try again. Maybe you can beat me with somebody else? Ryuji snorts and picks Jacen and Tsurugi, getting Tegan as a helper. The screen opens up and they're now in downtown Nerima. Ro gets Pink & Link. Several NPC's and other GRIT char's are seen watching the fight. Tsurugi leaps in and waves a banner for the KNK as Tarou snorts. They begin the fight, though Ro's skill with Tarou still sucks. Soon Ryuji is pulling out more moves with Tsu than Ro can counter. Tsu's power bar goes full and Ryuji tries another super attack like before and the screen changes. game Tsu: Come to the Ken Ni Kaze!! On screen Tsurugi leaps at Tarou, grabs him and carries him to the KNK where a horde of NPC's throw Tarou into a group of drunken dwarves, suddenly Ling chucks him upward where a whip grabs Tarou's neck, flinging him down to the floor where Trina proceeds to whip him mercilessly. Tarou goes down and the entire KNK crew poses. Ro: Aw man.... Ryuji: Ha ha! Mist appears and Ryuji decides to summon Tegan. She leaps in quickly, starts scratching at Mist rapidly as he blocks, and leaps away. Ro has Mist perform a super that Tsurugi blocks. He then switches to Jacen and they continue fighting. Ro summons Pink and Link. They hop in shout 'Over!' and attack with a lousy punch/kick combo before jumping away. Ryuji finally takes down Mist with repeated switchings. Ro: Mierda.... Ryuji: Ha ha! Ro: -_- Okay, good fight kid. Lets see who I'll pick... Ryuji gets Tsubasa as his helper. The screen opens up and its in the front lawn of Mystic Manor. An occasional thunder crack will go off in the background. Ro is standing there with Pikachu before Pikachu hops off. game: Ready? FIGHT! Ro begins unleashing with some ki blasts at Tsurugi. "Kontatsu Raiken!" The lightning bolt shocks Tsurugi. Tsu then attacks Ro and they go at with melee. Ro's regular attacks are basic but he charges his power bar quickly. Tsu tries to pull Ro to the Ken Ni Kaze but Ro dodges his charge and lands behind him. Ro pulls off a super and Ro suddenly shouts "Come to the Ken Ni Kaze!!" Mimicing Tsu's final perfectly, Tsu gets pummeled by his own staff! Ryuji: No way! Ro: Yes! I have my mimicry in this! Ryuji: Grr! Ryuji switches up and Jacen hops out. The two battle with ki blasts until Ro switches for Shelley. "Hinami!" Shelley attacks with his sword and the two go at it when Ro summons Gaeld. Gaeld appears from out of the ground and casts a huge magical circle that flies at his opponent. Jacen gets knocked down. Ryuji then summons Tsubasa who drops on top of Shelley disguised as a mailbox before his head pops out and laughs before running away. Shelley uses his sword for most attacks. Suddenly it rains and Shelley turns into a totoro while Jacen turns into a puppy. All Shelley-totoro can do is hop around and try to bump into Jacen-puppy. Eventually Arashi runs up, splashing hot water on Shelley and returning him to normal. Nabiki appears and sighs as she splashes Jacen with hot water too. Ro changes characters and Ro leaps back into the battle. Jacen battles until Ro tries another super but with different buttons. "Kaenryusae bu!" Ro leaps up and a huge pillar of ki erupts from the ground, lifting Jacen up and KO'ing him. Tsurugi returns. This time Ryuji tries some different buttons and Tsu pulls off a new super. "Dawn Requiem!" The massive attack obliterates whats left of Ro's life bar. Shelley returns but Ro's handling is no good against Ryuji's experience with Tsurugi and Ro gets beaten again. After sever hours of play time the two are finally exausted of money. Ryuji: That was great! Lets come back again. Ro: Ay yai yai... if Abuela Feathers is alright with that idea. Geez, I hope we have enough for the train back to Nerima... Ryuji: Aw don't worry! I'm sure I can convince her. Wasn't that great when I got Akemi to "smite" you? Ro: Oh yeah? Well I made short work of you with Blade. Ryuji: Hah! Not half as quick as I did when I picked Ryuu. Ro: Well, Ranma still cut him down. Ryuji: You were just lucky. You were actually dumb enough to fall for Stark's 'diver punch' attack thingie. Ro: You... I'll diver punch you back to Nerima. ;p Ryuji: Yeah right. Hey I'll bet if I was a playable character I woulda whipped your butt. Ro: No way. I can handle myself really well. Ryuji: With your lame attacks? Ro: Just wait till they come out with the sequel. I'll have learned a lot of new stuff by then. ^_- Ryuji: Maybe I can be in it too! They continue to laugh and walk away as the machine continues to call out to more gamers eager to throw away their money.... ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Just some more ideas. backgrounds not mentioned: Zuni's, typical Japanese forest, Turnip Keep, GRITivision TV station, outside of Ucchan's, outside of the Nekohanten(with tumbleweeds drifting by and the occasional peek for customers by Shampoo) If Ann gets turned to a pig by a random rainstorm Chyron throws hot water on her. If Jei gets turned into a wookie, Mariko offers hot water. Use your imagination for other transformations... Hidden Characters: Ryuu-ou Mamono Hunter Heavensrun Epsilon I had more ideas for Helper Characters but I forgot.... ----------------------------------------------------------------------- I debated as to what kinda forum I'd use. I'm more a fan of the 2-D fighters. I know, I know I ripped offa Capcom vs Marvel but the KOF format didn't really hold strong in my mind. ;p Anyways, add in your ideas for supers, moves, victory quotes, and other techniques for your chars in the GRIT arcade game! BTW, I made Tarou difficult to control cuz he doesn't use the 'typical' fighting game joystick moves. After all he isn't typical in the least. I've never been good with really weird joystick moves... -_- Unlucky
