Places to go
...what a tangled Web is woven
This is your typical obligatory homepage 'links' page. It has a collection of links to some of the more interesting pages out there, and a brief section all about linking to this page. Hopefully you'll find something of interest here - it's how I found some of these pages in the first place, so these sort of pages do have their uses. Plus it truly earns the WWW its 'Web' name. ^_-
Some of the commentary on the links is a bit old and thus out of date, so take it with a pinch of salt.
Fairly simple stuff this - this page is link free, so if you want to link to it or a subpage of it on your own page go right ahead. I don't have any nifty link buttons or banners, though I keep on telling myself to make some. Maybe I will one of these days.
- Anime Web Turnpike
The Turnpike has become the definitive anime link on the Web. If you're looking for something about a particular anime or manga on the net, chances are you can find something about it through the Turnpike.
- Anime Australia
The title of the page says it all, really.
- The MadMan's Cafe
The MadMan lives in Japan and so he gets good news on Japanese videogames quite quickly, and he covers all the major companies. A useful games news site.
This site has FAQs for lots of video games.
- Improfanfic
Improfanfic is where a story is passed on from one author to another, each one writing a chapter before passing it on. I've done a large number of chapters for a few of the stories there, and it's all good fun. Check it out.
- Indie Madnesse
One of the indie improfanfic sites and the main one I frequent.
- The rec.arts.anime.creative newsgroup
This is THE place to post anime fanfiction. It also has an archive, which is the next link:
- The rec.arts.anime.creative archive
Everything posted to rec.arts.anime.creative and its forebears is archived here in GZIP format. If you don't like the way they're compressed or don't have an unarchiver program for the GZIP format, there's a trick you can use to have the server unarchive it for you - check out the readme file in the root directory.
- Sluggy Freelance
Sluggy Freelance has secretarial aliens, homicidal rabbits, and mummies playing cards, and features the line "I'll get back to you, my secretary just exploded". It's been going since late August 1997 and all the past comics are archived at the site, giving you a nice large amount of past material to work through.
- Jackie's Fridge
- 8-bit Theater
A webcomic using graphics from the really early Final Fantasy games. Don't be put off by the blockiness of the characters - that's part of the whole charm. ^_^
- Exploitation Now
In its own words, EN is 32% cheesecake; 40% fan service; 26% gratuitous panty shots; and 2% dramatic character-driven storylines. Very funny. And Jordan is very cool. *_*
- Megatokyo
- The Dilbert Zone
A comic strip about the archetypal engineer Dilbert. A humourous yet sometimes eerily accurate look at the business and software world, including moronic managers, callous consultants, and twisted ties.
- Polykarbon: Tutorials!
- Solace: Tutorials
Both of these tutorials are nominally for 'anime-style', though they can be adapted for other styles as well. And they also tell you not only what to do, but the why of it, too.
