What was new at Beyond Forever in 2001

21st November 2001

I actually made this change more than a week ago, on the 13th, but haven't got around to posting it yet. Anyway, it's some stuff about the surname 'Scougall'. It's a very uncommon surname and I've never found much about it on the net, so I thought I'd post what I know.

14th of October 2001

Not much of a wait there. This time the update has been Saving the World Again chapter 9 on the Improvisational page. It's not my longest chapter ever (in fact, I think it's my second shortest) but as someone once told me, "when you can't think of any further to go, it's a sign the chapter is finished." So there you go.

Also, the Quotes page has been HTMLised.

10th of October 2001

Another longish wait. But then, I haven't been doing a whole lot of stuff for this homepage lately.

The latest addition is just something you may have already seen if you frequent GRIT page at all - it's the picture of Steve and Ann cosplaying as Leona and Ralf, which has been added to the GRIT Pictures section of the Creative Gallery.

30th of August 2001

Not too long a wait there. ^_^

Just a couple of minor updates: I've added a quotes file and have updated the Links page. It was getting quite scary; the last revision date on the links page was November 1999! Just a few more months and it wouldn't have been updated for 2 YEARS!

26th of August 2001

Rather a long time between updates, there. And only half my current record for longest time between updates, which is two months.

So, what's new this time around?

First up, the obligatory about me page has been updated, and now has a picture of me. Enjoy. Or cringe in fear, as the case may be.

Second, four new pictures in the Creative Gallery. Along with OWF chapter 28 to the Impro page. Speaking of which, the Impro page has undergone a slight reorganisation, to account for stories which are on new sites.

20th of July 2001

The big in your face change is that the front page has been redesigned. Whoo. It only took me a few months.

That's it, no other changes at the moment.

15th of July 2001

That's it. I can't take the background images that I was using for this site and the GRIT page (the ones that started off with a wishy washy colour on the left and then graduated to full white as you go to the right). They're GONE now! AHAHAHAHA!

Of course, this makes the page look that much blander.

In other news, Saving the World Again chapter 6 has been added to the Improvisational Fiction page, and there are new pictures added to the various picture pages in the Creative Gallery.

27th of June 2001

And that was a slightly longer wait between updates.

All I've done this time is a quick update to the Creative Gallery. The Stone in the Sword page has been removed from it, as the story is obviously dead and going nowhere. For more information on why, check out both recent entries in my livejournal and the explanation on the page itself, which will stay around for a while but not be linked to.

Slightly more positive news: I've finally reinstalled ICQ, after a couple of months of saying I'll get around to it.

2nd of June 2001

That was a slightly less long wait between updates. ^_^;

In this update, there are new pictures in all picture sections in the Creative Gallery. And that's it. Mind you, adding in new pictures always takes a long time for me, fomr some reason. So it feels like a huge update and yet when I write about it here it seems pretty small. Whatever. Check out the new pictures, okay?

21st May 2001

Rather huge delay between updates there, wasn't it? ^_^;

New stuff on the Official GRIT page. More details can be found on the page itself. Just thought I'd mention it here so you all know I'm not dead and I am, y'know, actually *doing* stuff with these pages I call a Web presence.

Also, the final chapter of To Hell and Back has been written and sent off. I got a favourable response, so I know it doesn't completely suck, at least.

Oh, and I've been posting a lot to my LiveJournal lately. This will probably wind down slightly (I just can't maintain the posting rate and do other things as well) but I'm going to try and post in that reasonably often.

30th March 2001

I'm not playing quite as much of the Dreamcast as I thought I would. I suppose this is a good thing. ^_^

Anyway, the main is I finally have regular email access again! Yes, after two weeks of an integrity check on the RAID server, aforesaid RAID server is now fine and dandy and I can send and receive e-mail normally again! Yay!

If you tried sending me e-mail to the address s_scougall@mailandnews.com over the past couple of weeks and haven't heard back, odds are it's because of the mailandnews downtime. Please send again.

26th March 2001

Three things.

First the simplest. RECBT #55 has been added to the Impro page. Go and read and laugh.

Second, the GRIT page now has its own News section. This is furthering the split between this page and the GRIT page, which makes sense. After all, why should you have to check this page to see what's changed with the official GRIT page?

The fact that it makes my job a bit easier is just a nice bonus. ^_^

The third thing is that I finally have a Dreamcast. It only took me a couple of months of deliberation. ^_^; The groovy thing is is that I could get a few discounts - even though I got a fair few extras, such as two games, a second controller, and a memory units, I only spent around $450. At full price I would have paid $100 more.

One of the two games is Dead or Alive 2, which if you ask me is almost justification enough for the whole entire shebang. (It certainly cost a whole lot less than a Dead or Alive 2 arcade machine, plus I get more options this wayy too!) I've been in love with this game ever since it first hit arcades here more than a year ago - or was it two? I can't remember.

And to people wondering why on earth I got a DC AFTER Sega stopped manufacturing them, I have one thing to say: The PS2 is $725 here in Australia. That's with a discount. There is no WAY I'm buying a console at that price, especially when you consider I'd have a fair few accessories to get on top of that, easily bumping the price up to $1000. Ouch.

21st March 2001

Boo and hiss. The Mailandnews server is down. It's been down for several days now. They're working to restore service, but have slipped on their deadline twice already.

If you've sent me e-mail in the last several days (shading back to last Friday/Thursday) then please resend to s_scougall@hotmail.com.

13th March 2001

I finally got off my lazy butt and reorganised the GRIT Gallery into subsections. It's a very simple split, but I simply don't have the time to design something snazzy.

12th March 2001

The Gods Must Be Randy #22 has been added to the Impro page.

And some changes to the GRIT page. The Fire summary has been added to the GRIT history page, the Links page has been updated at long last, and the most recent Theme songs compilation has been added.

4th March 2001

The more-than-one-month-long silence is finally broken and I'm back, updating pages. There's been many many new pictures added to the GRIT pictures page. On top of that, I've added a few non-GRIT pictures to the Creative Gallery. Do go have a look.

The whole GRIT page needs a bit of a redeisgn, especially the Gallery page - it's a massive 40 kilobyte behemoth. I've never got around to doing this redesign, but I'll have to do it soon.

Sooner than that, I'll be putting up my chapter of The Gods Must Be Randy. As I write this I'm still waiting for prereader comments. And after that, I'll be working on the To Hell and Back ending. Look for them showing up on this page soon.

I was seriously wondering about the point of my LiveJournal. My entries are sporadic and half of them feel like rants to me; this is not presenting me in a very good light. But I can never seem to get around to using it just to post the events of the day, either. And I feel that if I wanted to do that, I can just use this part of my page, here. That was the original point of this part of my page, after all. To go to Steven Scougall's homepage and instantly see what he's thinking. Only, the past few months all he's been thinking about have been webpage updates.

But it's not the best design for that, is it? Not only do I want my thoughts prominently displayed, but my Table of Contents section off to the right there, also easily accessible. A key part of web design is to be compact, and reduce scrolling as much as possible. Yet things are squeezed, especially if I want to make a long entry (like this one). I've gone through many designs, trying to get the balance right, but it's never really worked...

So. The point of all this waffling is that from now I'm not going to bother treating this part of my webpage as a journal or whatever anymore. It'll just be a news section for whatever changes have been made to my webpage. I will try my darndest to use my LiveJournal for more than just rants - I can't promose I'll write in it every day, but at least once a week.

Steve out.

25th January 2001

There's been a new picture added to the GRIT pictures page and many new profiles added to the GRIT profiles page.

6th January 2001

No energy for lots of waffling tonight.

There's been an update to the GRIT pictures page.

Also, I've almost completely rewritten the About Me page because it was too damn long.
