30th December 2000
Finally I have some time off work. Time to actually *do* things. I might even get around to splitting the GRIT gallery page into subpages, and - oh, that's right, I have to move house. I have to get ready to move house and all sorts of wonderful moving type things. So even though I have time off (and not a moment too soon, but that's another story) I may not be able to do any big changes to this page.
But there *are* new pictures on the GRIT gallery page, so go check them out. I've also fixed some silly mistakes that were on the page, and Fox Lee's page has been added to the GRIT links page.
22nd December 2000
Lots of new pictures on the GRIT Gallery page. And not just from Talen this time - there's also some from Fox Lee, and two from me.
19th December 2000
A minor correction to the GRIT Gallery page - I'd described one of the Futile pictures incorrectly. All fixed now.
There's a lot of new pictures coming, just not tonight. ^_^
16th December 2000
Tonight we have four new pictures by Talen on the GRIT Gallery page; new and updated profiles for Serana, Ikiban, and Stark on the GRIT profiles page; a colour version of the Vanessa pic on the Fanart page; and Otaku Wish Fulfilment Theatre chapter 17 on the Impro page.
4th December 2000
A big update this time.
First of all, there are new pictures in the Creative Gallery - a pic of King of Fighter's Vanessa in the fanart section, and a pic of Hitomi in the GRIT pictures section.
In addition to the Hitomi pic, there are a couple of new pictures from Talen on the GRIT Gallery page. Well, one's not really new, but now that Jesse has been formally introduced to GRIT, pics of her can go up. Plus a new almost too-ecchi-for-the-page pic of Mariko has gone up. ^_^;
There's been a significant change to the structure of the GRIT guides page and the GRIT profiles page - character/combat guide related information is no longer on the former page. Instead, all the forms and Blade's discussion on how to use the combat guide form have migrated over to the GRIT profiles page. Also, there are some new profiles, and the six or seven character profiles that were in the character guide but not on the profiles page have been added.
And finally, the GRIT history has gained a couple of character history / stories, for Ryuu-ou and Shi.
3rd December 2000
Cripes, it's December already.
Anyway, just a quick note this time - I haven't done much on the webpage or done much with e-mail or been around the various online forums I hang out at recently. The reason is that yesterday I was at a Taekwondo testing, going for "baby black", and the whole week before the testing I was in extensive training mode. I'm currently recovering. This recovery is taking a while.
I've also been busy doing some drawing - I won't say who or what of, you'll find out soon enough. ^_- But doing that drawing has also taken up the time I could have used for webpage updating. But once I get back to updates, expect yet another big update to the GRIT pictures page.
27th November 2000
At long last, I have written another Impro chapter! It's Invasion Defense Force RandomLetter chapter 15, and it's a bit short. But at least it's something. And I tried a couple of tricky or at least interesting effects in it.
There's yet another update to the GRIT pictures page, too. Wai! Courtesy of the talented Talen, of course. And a scary thought - I now have over 10 megabytes of GRIT pictures available. I'd certainly hate the incredibly long upload I'd face if I ever moved my webpage. ^_^;;;
More page news - ever since I started keeping a separate journal, I've been updating this page less and less. Merging page news and general thoughts into a sort of mini-journal and moving them over to the side like this was supposed to make me update the page more often.
The thing is, I've been keeping the separate journal for close to a month now, and I've grown used to having it around. It's possible to merge a livejournal into a website, I believe. Thing is, that means I don't have full control of my webpage's HTML, which I'd much prefer.
Deliberations, such as they are, continue.
13th November 2000
No witty insights tonight. In fact, it seems that my LiveJournal thingy is where my witty insights have ended up. I would have preferred for the witty insights to stay on this page, to be honest, which is why I was never very sure about the whole LiveJournal idea. But for the moment, I'll stay with the current setup.
In page news, there's been an update to the GRIT pictures gallery. No surprise there. The surprise is that I've finally done some pictures for it. Also, I've made my own GRIT pictures page fully up to date - I'd ignored it in a previous update.
November 6th 2000
New pics on the GRIT page. Well, I say new but some of them are old, and I just never got around to finding out if I could use them. No more news tonight. Apart from that I've made another weird entry in my livejournal, which looks like it won't go extinct any time soon.
November 1st 2000
No witty insights tonight. I spent most of my insightful moments when scribbling in my on-line journal, which is already endangered. Truly this is going to be one of my more shortlived ideas. ^_^
Site news: New pictures on the GRIT Gallery page (go on and guess who they're by), new profiles on the GRIT profiles page, and minor changes to the GRIT welcome page, to make it look more official and everything. More effort on 'officialising' it shall occur this coming weekend. Possibly. I'll finally be writing Impro again (or, rather, Indie Impro, for IDFRL) this weekend and so we'll see how much time I have for HTMLing.
October 30th 2000 (2nd)
That was fast. About two hours after writing the below, I caved in and signed up at LiveJournal. You can find mine at http://www.livejournal.com/users/sscougall. Bear in mind that this is still all very experimental and I might pull the plug on the LiveJournal one at any time.
October 30th 2000
Just one quick personal thought for today - I recently stumbled across LiveJournal, where a few people I know of had set up journals. I had a bit of a look around, but I probably won't be joining in. This little weblog / journal thing is really all I need, and besides, you'd have to click on a link to get to it. I prefer the immediacy of this approach.
...or so I keep thinking, but the mere fact that I'm thinking about it all the time suggests to me that I do want to start up a more 'official' journal. Stay tuned.
Site news - Talen comes through again and we have three new pictures in the GRIT Gallery and an inked version of another. Go have a look. Also, I've finally decided that the GRIT page pretty much is the official GRIT page and am now treating it as such. It'll be undergoing a bit of a reshuffle as I try and work out the best look for the page. Expect the unexpected and all that.
(22nd October 2000)
The only thing that's changed this time is a large number of new pics in the GRIT Gallery, almost all of them by Talen. All hail Talen, for without his help the gallery page wouldn't be getting much activity. ^_^;
Last night I went to an anime club screening, and, once again, I came away feeling slightly depressed. I'm not sure *why* I almost always end up slightly depressed. I think the fact that I only ever go by myself is part of it. Another is that after leaving screenings, I always feel a bit inadequate - as if I'm not into anime enough, not collecting DVDs and videos avidly enough. But I just don't have the time and money for it... or so I tell myself anyway.
And it doesn't help that the exchange rate is to the point where you need two Australian dollars to buy one US dollar. That's going to really push up the price of buying anime from overseas (about the only way I can get it legitimately.)
But if I don't have the time and money, then why do I still keep on feeling depressed about it? (Rhetorical question, please do not answer.)
(19th October 2000)
I got attacked tonight, just an hour and a half ago. Well, not really attacked. But the guy threatened me with a definite view to violence, and had what he said was a knife in his hand, and said he had no problems about killing people. Maybe it was all just bluffing. But it was dark and I couldn't see what was in his hand, and I didn't really want to find out first hand or not. And if there's one thing I've learned at Tae Kwon Do, it's that you can't win against a knife - you will get cut, no matter how good you are. High level black belts get cut, even, and I'm not even a black belt.
And irony of ironies, this happened on my way back from Tae Kwon Do training. And even more ironical, it happened outside the police college, which was, of course, completely dark. Perhaps most ironical of all, this was less than one hundred metres from my house. And this is supposed to be a more peaceful area of a mostly peaceful city...
I tried to run, but he was bigger with longer legs and definitely faster. (The way these things happen I guess.) If a car hadn't come along (coincidentally driven by my brother), I'm not sure what have happened. I could be dead now, or in hospital. It's certainly a sobering thought...
Or I might have been able to run up to the police college and find sanctuary there. You never know.
At first I was thinking that because I didn't fight back, all my martial arts training has been useless; but I realise now that it was useful. I didn't go immediately into shock, I didn't immediately surrender, I didn't provoke a fight. (Well, up until I started running.) I'm alive. That's the main thing. But I won't be able to walk alone at night for a while, that's for sure.
October 18th 2000 (Part 2)
YES! After a good solid evening of stuffing around with Windows ME and its evil networking troubleshooters, I came to the conclusion that the troubleshooters are mostly useless. They couldn't even identify a fairly simple DNS problem. (Kicks Windows, but not too hard - it might break again.)
As I'm writing this at 12:12 at night, I can't respond to any e-mail, but I'll try to catch up on it over the next couple of days.
Night all, I'm off to bed.
(18th October 2000)
ARGH! (Kicks home computers for a bit)
For the past few days I have not been able to connect to the internet at home. I'm working to fix this, but while this crisis continues, don't expect me to be answering e-mail, or making large updates to this page, or whatever. The best I can do is small and quick updates, and just a quick scan of e-mail through the Webmail interface while I'm at work. I certainly don't have the time to answer. It's very annoying, as you can imagine.
I don't know how many people will actually *read* this, but if you have, and were wondering why I've been even more silent than usual, then there's your answer.
Now excuse me, I have to go back to work. Tax file numbers, I hear you calling...
(15th October 2000)
Small update this time - I drew some rough design sketches of my GRIT character Steve and put them on the GRIT pictures page, added Puce-chan's combat guide on the GRIT profiles page, and Vince Tagle kindly provided the old Jason-kun in Birthday Land story.
And I'm too tired to write anything more exciting, so I won't.
October 8th 2000
Lots of activity over at the GRIT page this update. There's a whole stack of new profiles on the GRIT profiles page, a new picture in the GRIT Gallery, some more updating of the GRIT links page, and Blade's combat guide essay has been added.
More GRIT page news - I'm considering making the GRIT page a bit more separate from the rest of my page, and getting rid of the My GRIT stuff page from it. (The actual useful info on that page, being character histories and the Fire of the Dragon page wouldn't be lost... just relocated.) The GRIT page is so close to being a separate page, anyway. Deliberations on the matter continue.
Non page news: I was at a Tae Kwon Do tournament today. I lost both my bouts, which I've put down to a lack of aggression, and also being at least ten cm shorter than everyone else. The feeling of feeling useless lasted for a while, and then disappeared when I was suddenly drafted into being an assistant for the breaking competition. (I don't think I'll ever forget 9 boards of wood being broken scant centimetres from me.) It also helped that a student at my club came first in his division.
And the special event set to pop music was very funny and invigorating. There's nothing quite like 400 odd people clapping in time as two people bop and punch and kick along the arena. ^_^
To tell the truth, I'd been feeling a bit down about Tae Kwon Do for a while, but the tourney helped rekindle my old interest. If anything, I'm feeling really inspired to become a better sparrer.
October 1st 2000
Site news first: You've probably noticed that this front page has undergone a bit of revision by now. (Unless you're using a non-table capable browser, like Lynx, in which case it should be mostly the same as before.) With the change, I'm moving to a kind of 'weblog' approach to this main page. Not only will I mention site news here, I'll also (briefly) talk about whatever I feel like at the time.
Unfortunately, right now I don't have anything to ramble about. ^_^; So I'll leave it for now...
Also, there's a whole bunch of new stuff over at the GRIT page - there are new pictures in the Gallery, updated profiles on the Profiles page, "GRIT's you" has been added, and the GRIT links section has finally been updated.
Also, there's been some new pics added to the Creative Gallery.
September 27th 2000
Added a rather large collection of Jason's pics to the GRIT Picture Gallery, and some new profiles on the GRIT Profiles Page. Because of the sheer number of pictures, the page had to be reorganised somewhat. And for once, there's no Impro-related update to the Creative Gallery. ^_^
19th of September 2000
Added more of Talen's pics to the GRIT Picture Gallery, and all of Blade's character and combat profiles to the GRIT Profiles Page. In non-GRIT stuff, Otaku Wish Fulfilment Theatre #7 was added to the Impro page.
12th of September 2000
Added the GRIT Picture Gallery, Ben's profiles to the GRIT Profiles Page, and Slayers Glorious 26 to the Impro page. Lotsa stuff.
2nd of September 2000
Added Spirits of Hope #3 to the Impro page, and a picture of Miss Kristen (from Slayers Starboard) to the Fanart page. Also, a very slight change to the main page.
16th of August 2000
Two new Impro parts on the Impro page. They are Reforming Evil Can Be Tricky Chapter 27 and Hell and Back Chapter 15. Go and read and get horribly confused if you haven't read the previous parts.
July 30th 2000
Small update this week - updated Kon Tatsu's profiles on the GRIT profiles page.
23rd of July 2000
Two main changes this time. First of all, there are five new pictures on the Fanart, original pics, and QuickSketches pages. All are in B&W, but people tell me they're good enough.
The other change this time is Pucechan's character profile on the GRIT profiles page.
16th of July 2000
Three main changes this time. First, there's the fact that my homepage has now been restored after Crosswinds' crash and most of the files went bye-bye. Second, there are additions to the Holy Hairclippers Quest synopsis on the GRIT history page, and thirdly, there are two new Impro parts on the Impro page.
2nd of July 2000
Jason Heavensrun's synopsis of the Holy Hairclipper Quest thus far has been added to the GRIT history page.
25th of June 2000
Two new parts up on the Impro page - High High #7 and Slayers Glorious #18.
27th of May 2000
A new Penny Gabriev picture on the Fanart page. That's it, no more to see this update.
23rd of May 2000
Yet another new Impro part for the Impro page. This time it's Reforming Evil Can Be Tricky chapter 18. Also, new pictures in the Fanart and GRIT pictures sections; and there's a new QuickSketches page.
17th of May 2000
New Impro parts for the Impro page, as usual. This time it's Heart Heart High Chapter 35 and Ultra Chapter 44. Also, there are three new pictures on the Fanart page - two decent coloured pics of Thiesra and a rough sketch of Penny from Slayers Demiurge. There was also a little bit of editing on the front page, with an important note about me not using ICQ and a new rant/news item, but you've probably seen those already, right?
15th of April 2000
The rut continues, with not much more than the usual update. New chapters have been added to the Impro page - Do Gooders chapter 60 and Final Fantasy Legacy chapter 17. I also put the Stone in the Sword page into the Creative Gallery, but that's not such a big change. No new writing has been done for SitS, after all.
20th of March 2000
Just the usual update. New profiles on the GRIT profiles page, and added something to the Impro page - Invasion Defence Force Random Letter chapter 7, to be more precise. That's it, nothing more to see here.
...I'm getting into a rut here. >_<
